Today's production and consumption is causing a negative impact in the planet, leading to the depletion of our limited resources and introduction of waste and harming emissions. Sustainable development and protection of our environment have become important issues. To address those issues, this Summer School aims
to strength the capacity of UK and Chinese institutions to undertake joint research related activities in sustainable development with particular concern of ocean renewable energy and sustainable product development; and
to enable early-career researchers and research students to benefit from leading experts and researchers in the other country.

Lecturers
Dr. John Huckerby, Chair of the International Energy Agency's Ocean Energy Systems Executive (IEA:OES), and the lead author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change' s (IPCC) "Special Report on Renewable Energy Resources and Climate Change Mitigation" and Director of Power Projects Limited, New Zealand.
Dr. Joachim Spangenberg is Vice President of the Sustainable Europe Research Institute (SERI), invited Professor at the University of Versailles, member of the IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management, and was a review author for the 2007 IPCC report. He focuses on multicriteria sustainability strategies, including work on sustainability indicators, sustainable consumption and design for sustainability. He holds a PhD in Macroeconomics and diplomas in Biology and Studies of Ecology. Dr. Spangenberg has (co)authored or edited more than 350 publications.
Professor Daizhong Su, Head of ADMEC at NTU with major research interests in sustainable product development, leader of two EU-Asia projects supported by the European Commission, and he has been frequently invited to give keynote/invited speeches at international conferences.
Professor Liang Zhang, Director of Ocean Renewable Energy Institute at HEU, Observer of International Energy Agency-Ocean Energy System, and Vice-Director of Ocean Energy Committee of Chinese Renewable Energy Society.
Professor Shifan Zhu, Head of Industrial Design Department and Leader of Sustainable Design Research at HEU, author of the book 'Theory and Methods of Green Product Design', organizer of ADM2006 and ADM 2009 International Conferences and the National Conference on Industrial Design Education (2007).
